Gas oil refinery reopens
21/09/2009
A gas oil refinery in Livorno should resume its work soon following the end of a trade union strike, Reuters reports.
The union removed pickets and delayed the planned strike that had stopped work for ten days at the Eni refinery.
Antonio Fidanza, the head of the petroleum energy division at major Italian union, CGIL, said: "It should be fully operating shortly, maybe even today."
He added that the strike was suspended after the owner of the plant, Eni, said it plans to keep the level of employment up and continue its investment.
The refinery mainly produces fuel oil, gasoline and oil for bunkering and makes 84,000 barrels per day.
Eni is an energy company that researches, produces, develops, transports and markets oil and natural gas. It employs approximately 78,000 people in more than 70 countries, according to the company website.
